A memorial service to celebrate the life of Sandie Mieir, 45, of Ponca City, was held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 21, 2003 at Community Christian Church in Ponca City with the Rev. Wayne Majors Officiating.
Sandie was born October 3, 1957 in Ponca City to Donald and Marie (Brown) Mieir. She died Wednesday, June 18, 2003 at Via Christi Oklahoma Regional Medical Center.
She attended Ponca City schools and was a 1975 graduate of Ponca City High School. She continued her education and graduated with a bachelor's in education in 1979 and a master's in education in 1982 from Central State University.
Sandie taught special education in Guthrie Public Schools as well as in the Wichita, Kan., school system. On May 17, 1989, she married Kenneth E. Lawson in Ponca City, where they remained and made their home. Ill heath forced her to leave the classroom teaching profession. She fought a long battle with multiple sclerosis. She then worked for the Head Start program until her illness forced her to early retirement.
