CHAS. W. NORTH KILLED
The body of Charles W. North was found at 5:55 the morning of January 2, 1903, lying between the rails of the Santa Fe railroad track in front of the Mulhall depot, by the operator H. D. Smith. The head was severed from the body and the body was fearfully mangled. The supposition is that the man was struck by a south bound freight that went thru here at 4:40.
No one has yet been found that can throw any light as to how the accident happened. He was heard to say during the evening that he was going to Guthrie. Whether in order to carry out this intention, he was trying to board the train or whether being too near the train he was drawn under the wheels, is not now known and possibly never will be. From the place where he was first struck the body was dragged four rails length when the head was severed from the body, the head being found between the platform and the track and the body between the rails.
Mr. Smith notified Deputy George Buchele and Geo. W. Rotterman who gathered up the remains, and after the arrival of Under Sheriff Mahoney on the 10 o'clock train, they were taken to Rotterman's undertaking rooms where they are being prepared for burial.
Mr. North lived with his family, a wife, four sons and one daughter, on his claim five miles southwest of Mulhall where he had resided since the opening of the country. He was an industrious man of good principles and of a religious turn. He had been a justice of the peace and at the time of his death he was secretary of the school board. Expressions of sorrow at his sudden and terrible death and of deepest sympathy for the bereaved wife and children are heard on every hand.
Arrangements are not at the time of going to press completed for the funeral, but it was probably be held from the Presbyterian church tomorrow, Saturday, afternoon

OBITUARY.
The funeral of Charles W. North was largely attended last Saturday afternoon at 2:30 at the Presbyterian church, Rev. Edwards preaching the sermon from 2d Cor. 5:1, a text selected by the relatives of the deceased. It was a very impressive service and called forth many expressions of sorrow and sympathy for the bereaved ones. The following obituary was read at funeral:
Charles W. North was born June 14, 1856, at Jonesville, Wis., and was married to Miss Maud M. Mills in 1886. He was converted at the age of 21 years and united with the U.B. church. He believed that God looked upon the heart and not upon the outward conditions. Tho in his weakness he often fell, he always went to God for mercy and forgiveness. Last Sabbath morning was spent with his family in the study of the Sabbath school lesson, a custom for a long time observed by the family.
