Funeral services for Carrie Marie Swank Perkins, 100, of Crescent will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 13, 2003 at the First Baptist Church of Crescent with John Lovett officiating. Interment will follow in Crescent Cemetery under the direction of Abernathy Funeral Home.
She was born October 24, 1902 in Ness, Kan. to Elmer Swank and Minnie Long. She died August 11, 2003 in Crescent.
She moved to Oklahoma with the family in 1913. They lived on a farm in the community of Columbia, and she and her brothers and sisters went to school at Plymouth Rock Public School, a one-room schoolhouse about 3/4 of a mile from the family farm. She moved to Oklahoma City in the early '20s and lived there until she retired in 1965. Carrie worked a number of years for the National Biscuit Co and at Tinker Field. She was an accomplished seamstress, always made her clothes and, of course, dressed in the latest fashions. She was a member of the Crescent First Baptist Church.
She married Vernon Counterman on November 6, 1926. He preceded her in death. She married Alfred Perkins in March of 1961. He preceded her in death in 1976.
Survivors include three nieces, Norma Mills, Bewley, Becky Thompson and Annett Swank; four nephews, Elwin and Dewayne Kuver and Gary and Gordon Swank; and numerous great-nieces and nephews.
