On September 22, 2003, Kenneth Carl Phillips peacefully passed from this life into an everlasting life with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Kenneth was born March 23, 1927 in Checotah, Oklahoma. A loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Claudia Phillips, wife Billie Marie Phillips, brother Bob Phillips, sister JoAnn Phillips and two grandsons, Joshua and Jason Channel.
He is survived by his wife Betty, four daughters, Cyndi Johnston and husband Jerry of Crescent, Chery James and husband Terry of East Bernard, Texas, Robyn Channel and husband Mike of Crescent, and Kellie Nowell of Crescent. Additional survivors include two stepchildren, LaDona Hays of Garber and husband Terry, Charles Harman of Billings, eleven grandchildren, five step-grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Kenneth had battled cancer and heart disease for several months. He was an active member of Central Baptist Church and had been ordained as a deacon and served in that capacity at Oak Valley Baptist Church for several years. Kenneth was a member of the Cherokee Nation, a thirty-second degree Mason, and also a veteran of World War II serving in the U. S. Navy.
In as much as we grieve for our father, grandfather, husband and friend, we are confident that our separation is only temporary. We rejoice in the knowledge that this life had been committed to Christ and is today residing with him in glory.
John 14:6 Jesus answered, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."
Services are under the direction of Abernathy Funeral Home at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 26, 2003 at First Baptist Church in Crescent. Interment is at Oakland Knowles Cemetery.
