Abraham Shippy, one of the first settlers in Orlando township died at his home on the claim he entered April 22, '89, on Friday August 29. Mr. Shippy had been feeling badly for some time and was very noticeably growing weaker so that those who had seen him a short time before his death were not surprised to hear that he had passed away. He had religious scruples against taking medicine and refused medical aid to the last. Mr. Shippy was quite a character. He figured quite prominently in politics and had his say in many caucuses and conventions, but of late he had given up politics and declared that the whole political system was corrupt and dishonest. He professed to see nothing but dire disaster for the financial future of the country. He leaves a wife and a large family abundantly able to care for themselves.
