Funeral services for Ernest Will "June" Swanson, 90, of Crescent will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 10, 2003 at the First Christian Church of Crescent with Pastor Joe Samuels officiating. Burial will follow in Crescent Cemetery under the direction of Abernathy Funeral Home.
Swanson was born June 11, 1912 in Crescent to E. A. and Adelina (Swanson)Swanson. He died Feb. 7, 2003 in Cushing.
June owned several service stations and farmed. He retired from Town & Country Hardware and Furniture in Crescent. During World War II, he was an airplace mechanic at Tinker Air Force Base. He was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge, the Crescent Chamber of Commerce and the First Christian Church of Crescent. He served on the board of Central Christian Camp in Guthrie, and served as Sunday School superintendent, class president and several other committees. He liked to work on cars, then sell them, and loved to repair items around the house. June and Helen enjoyed their grandchildren and like to take them individually to Oklahoma City to eat and shop. He enjoyed traveling in his later years.
He married Helen M. Wilson on Nov. 30, 1935, in Chickasha. She preceded him in death on Jan. 16, 1996.
He was also preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Carl, Roland and John Swanson.
Survivors include one daughter, Ella Mae Broyles and husband Bob of Edmond; two sons, Richard Allen Swanson and wife Marilyn of Cushing and Edward Wesley Swanson and wife Sandy of Grand Rapids, Mich.; 10 grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Viewing will take place Sunday from noon to 6 p.m. at Abernathy Funeral Home in Crescent.
