Graveside services for Fannie Fern Sneed, 80, of Guthrie will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 3, 2003 at Summit View Cemetery in Guthrie with a memorial service to follow at 11 a.m. at Noble Avenue Baptist Church Services are under the direction of Smith Funeral Home.
Sneed was born May 16, 1922 near Crescent to Weaver Ward Willson and Fannie Esther Greenway Willson. She passed away Dec. 30, 2002 at Golden Age Nursing Home in Guthrie where she had been a resident for almost six years.
She was a longtime member of the Noble Avenue Baptist Church, where she served as a Sunday School teacher in the Dorcas class for many years. As a young woman, she rededicated her life and her God-given musical talents to the Lord by singing and playing the piano and later the organ for Noble Avenue for over 40 years, then another eight years at West Guthrie United Methodist Church. She also ministered to many families using her music by playing for numerous weddings and funerals over the years. She taught in area Vacation Bible School and with other ladies in her church taught through Child Evangelism Fellowship.
She was a homemaker as well as an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed growing houseplants, working in her vegetable garden and providing for her family and friends by preserving through the process of canning and freezing vegetable and fruits.
She married Arthur Lee Sneed on Oct. 25, 1940 in the home of the Rev. Walter Daniels in Guthrie. He preceded her in death on Aug. 10, 1997 after nearly 57 years together.
She was also preceded in death by her parents and her four brothers, George, Bill, Gene and John Wilson, and a son-in-law, Cecil Mize.
Survivors include five daughters, Leanne and Eddie Winters of Guthrie, Sharon and Larry Fordyce of Guthrie, Lanette and the late Cecil Mize of Guthrie, Jarita and Steve Burks of Edmond and Nancy and Richard Romine of Guthrie. She loved having her family come visit, including her grandchildren Sheila and Don Channel of Guthrie, Stacey Winters of Stillwater, Bill and Terri Fordyce of Guthrie, Jason and Kelly Fordyce of Mustang, Michael and Tamara Mize of British Columbia, Canada, Shelly and Robert Dean of Guthrie, Garry Mize of Edmond, Barry Mize of Edmond, Amanda Mize of Norman, Stephanie Burke of Stillwater and Kitura Bauge and Whitney and Brooke Romine of Guthrie. She also had 13 great-grandchildren and another one expected in May 2003. She is also survived by numerous other realtives and friends.
Visitation will take place Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home in Guthrie.
Memorials may be made to Noble Avenue Baptist Church in the name of Fern Sneed.
