Mrs. M. A. Stewart, sister of Mrs. Reba Stanfield, passed away in a Guthrie, Oklahoma hospital April 25 (1977) after a short illness. Mrs. Stewart, well known in Bowie, was born on a claim near Mulhall, Oklahoma Territory, January 28, 1891. She was married to Milas Stewart in 1913 who preceded her in death in 1974.
Mrs. Stewart witnessed the ceremonial in 1907 that united Oklahoma Territory and Indian Territory into the new State of Oklahoma and also witnessed the inauguration of C. N. Haskell as the first governor of Oklahoma. For many years she and her family lived on the old 101 Ranch at Marland, Oklahoma.
She was a member of the Guthrie Church of Christ, Extension Homemakers Club and the Sons and Daughters of Original 89er's. Burial was in Crescent Oklahoma Cemetery.
