Funeral services for Virginia Lee "Bug" Stout, 72, formerly of Crescent, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 6, 2001 at Abernathy Funeral Chapel in Crescent with the Rev. Gerald Biswell presiding. Burial will follow in Oakland-Knowles Cemetery under the direction of Abernathy Funeral Home.
Stout was born June 21, 1928 in Crescent to George Robert Keele and Rosa Porch. She died February 2, 2001 in Whitewater, Kansas.
As a youngster, she moved to Rossville, Georgia and later to Hendon and Sweetwater, Tennessee, before returning to Crescent with her family in 1943.
She worked for Goodnight's Jewelry until her graduation from Crescent High School. She then worked for the Logan County News and later the Masonic Home printshop in Guthrie. She also worked for the Guthrie Register-News and the Co-op before moving to Oklahoma City to work for the Oklahoma Livestock News. In 1953, she returned to Guthrie, working for the Guthrie Daily News. She and her husband bought the Logan County News in 1972. They also owned My Place restaurant and leased the Twin Lakes restaurant. She retired in 1990.
Virginia married James Warren Stout on Nov. 23, 1955 in Crescent. He preceded her in death Feb. 18, 1991.
She was also preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Bessie and Mary.
Survivors include one daughter, Nancy Stout Eastman of Wichita, Kan., one son, James Kevin Stout of Wichita, Kan., three brothers, Tom Keele and Lawrence Keele of Sweetwater, Tenn. and Henry Keele of Crescent; and three grandchildren, Michael, Brandan and Dane Stout, all of Crescent.
Pallbearers will be Larry Eastman, Phil Cummins, Kevin Stout, Michael Stout, Brandan Stout and Dane Stout. Honorary pallbearers will be Phillip Yenzer and Buddy Johnson.
