Funeral services for Wallace Herman "Bill" Simpson, 67, of Guthrie were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2003 at Poplar and Warner Church of Christ in Guthrie with Gene Owen officiating. Interment followed in Summit View Cemetery under the direction of Davis Funeral Home of Guthrie.
Simpson was born March 22, 1936 in a dugout on his grandmother's farm two miles west of Meridian to Charles Emery and Susan (Wallace) Simpson. He died August 8, 2003 in Edmond.
Bill's family moved to a farm southeast of Mulhall around 1943. He then moved into Mulhall about 1946 and lived in an old hotel there for about a year. They then bought a house in Mulhall around 1947 in which Bill was raised. He spent his school years growing up in Mulhall, and attended Mulhall Elementary and High School.
He married LaVerla Robertson on February 20, 1959. They made their residence in Guthrie after Bill spent two years in the U. S. Army. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He was seen as a jolly person who enjoyed life by those who knew him. He was never too busy to help people who had a need. He raised a garden and gave away most of what he raised. He also thoroughly enjoyed going hunting and fishing with his friends and family.
He had been a member of the Church of Christ in Guthrie since June 30, 1965. He was also a 32nd degree mason.
Survivors include his wife, LaVerla, of the home; two daughters, Eileen Patzkie of Stillwater and Crystal Barker and husband Lynn of Orlando, Okla.; two granddaughters, April Lett of Perry and Jayln Barker of Orlando; one grandson, Cory Patzkie of Stillwater; two sisters, Edith Bartram of Mulhall and Kathryn Harris of Stillwater; one brother, J. T. Simpson of San Clemente, Calif.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Irene Logan, Erma Arnett and Lola Dixon.
