The following is a historical sketch of Mrs. M. Thompson; Mrs. Thompson was the third daughter of Rock Roberts and belonging to Dr. L. Smith. She was born July 8, 1852, in Cusa county, Alabama, and after remaining there until 1854, when she removed to Tyler, Smith county, Texas. On December 29, 1874, she was married to Morris Thompson. Afterward she removed to Chetopa, Kansas, where she remained until February, 1890, when she came to Oklahoma. She gained many friends wherever she lived. She died on July 18, 1898. She leaves a dear husband and two sons, and many friends to mourn over her loss. She now sleeps in the Dunkard cemetery, 10-1/2 miles southwest of Mulhall. There she remains awaiting for the great Judgment Day. She said she was ready and only waiting on her Saviour. Shortly before she died, she called her son and requested him to sing: "If the Death angel should knock at thy chamber door," and also "How sweet it is to trust in Jesus." Shortly afterwards she fell asleep and passed away peacefully. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. G.W. Winn at the residence at 3 p.m.
