Another long time Guthrie citizen has passed to the great beyond. Thomas Payne Towers, gave up this life, Tuesday morning, August 24th, after an illness of many months from an incurable malady.
Thomas Payne Towers was born in Omar, Wisconsin, June 2, 1851. He came west in the fall of 1870 and located in Russell, Kansas; five years later he moved to McPherson, Kansas, where he remained until 1890 at which time he became identified with the business and social life of Guthrie. He was a barber for 40 years and continued at his trade until failing health compelled him to retire in December 1914. During the last three weeks of his life he was bedfast.
He leaves a wife and one daughter, Mrs. C. E. Shene, 408 South Elm, also seven brothers, Geo. Towers, Cannon City, Colo., Ed Towers, Los Angeles, Mat Towers, Hoisington, Kansas, Billie Towers, Aline, Okla. Steve Towers, Tulsa, Okla.; James Towers, Bradley, S. Dakota and John Towers of this city.
