Lee Edwin Williams, 90, passed away early Sunday morning, Jan. 21, 2001 with his loving wife of 72 1/2 years close by.
Lee was born Oct. 8, 1910 in Rankin, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma to Ed H. and Lula (Garver) Williams. Lee was a farmer in the Camp Russell community for many years, and then a skilled carpenter until his retirement. He built their home in 1959 when they left the farm and moved in to Guthrie. Lee loved horses, even constructing life-sized concrete horses for his yard, which became a landmark on East Perkins Street.
Lee was a committee member of the Logan County Council on Aging, a committee to aid the Logan County Aging Services. He also served as president of this committee at different times. He served a number of years as a volunteer at Highland Hall's senior nutrition site.
Lee was a 32nd degree Mason, being a member of Masonic Lodge No. 35; Eastern Star Chapter No. 12; and a member of the First Southern Baptist Church.
A devoted father of three children, Lee is survived by his wife, Sophia, and children, Lela James of Oklahoma City; Dwayne Jerry Williams of Edmond, and Geraldine (Jerry) Sander of Idaho Springs, Colorado. He is survived by his sisters and brothers, May Gillispie of Medford, Oregon; Ina Cole of Oklahoma City; Goldie Parks of Mannford, Okla.; Zella Biggs of Guthrie; Vernon Williams of Guthrie; and Clarence (Jack) Williams of Perry. Lee also has six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson.
Services will be held Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2001, at 2:30 p.m. at Smith Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at Summit View Cemetery.
Friends may call at Smith Funeral Home until 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 23.
