Funeral services for Norma Gene Weldon Taylor Woods, 80, formerly of Crescent, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, June 6 at Abernathy Funeral Chapel in Crescent.
She was born to Frank Dale Weldon and Nellie Acton Weldon on Sept. 27, 1922 in Lovell. She left this Earth to join the heavenly Father on June 3, 2003 in Norman.
She was a loved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, a woman who lived life to its fullest by sharing it with those whose live she touched.
Norma Gene was queen of five rodeos; the Johnny Lee Willis Stampede in Tulsa, the Ada Rodeo, the 1936 and 1938 '89er Rodeos in Guthrie, the Oklahoma State Fair and the Woodward Elks. She also won three saddles and a horse. Norma was a well-known horsewoman and singer in the 1930s and '40s. She sang with the Sons of the Pioneers, the great Bob Wills at the Oklahoma City Fair and Scotty Harold by invitation. She performed in specialty acts and rode with the Guthrie Round-Up Club Square Dance unit. She was given riding lessons and was trained by the first All-American cowgirl, Lucille Mulhall and the Mulhall family. She was the granddaughter of Logan County representative and banker O. B. Acton. She was in partnership with Owen Acton, acclaimed athlete, OU football player and oilman, on the homestead ranch north of Crescent.
She is survived by six children, 18 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and numerous other family members and friends.
She will be forever remembered in the hearts of everyone that knew and loved her, and will hold a smile forever in their minds.
