Wendell Keith Waite, born Dec. 6, 1916 to Fred E. and Hazel Keith Waite in Burbank, Okla., died at home Jan. 15, 2001, after a short illness.
Wendell grew up in Mulhall, Okla., and graduated from Central State College in 1939. He served in the U.S. Army at Letterman's Hospital and in the Philippines during World War II. He married Winifred Robe in 1947 and they raised four children in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
He was retired from the New Mexico State Corporation Commission where he served as Director of Motor Transportation. He was a long time member of St. John's United Methodist Church in Santa Fe and Montezuma Masonic Lodge.
Wendell excelled at tennis, both as a player and coach, and equally loved the game of golf.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Winifred.
Wendell is survived by his four children and six grandchildren: Loyd, his wife Evelyn, and their children Ken and Kody, of Rolla, Mo.; Patsy Bolin and her husband Jim, of Parker, Co.; Kirk Waite, his wife, Susan, and their children, Mandy and Chase, of Oklahoma City; and Teri Perrin and her children, Jami and Leslie, of Houston, Texas. Wendell is also survived by Verla, his loving wife of 17 years, her children, Pat and David Farmer, of Oklahoma City; and his sister and golf partner, Kathleen Kincaid.
A memorial service will be held in Santa Fe, New Mexico with burial at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. Arrangements are by Baggerley Funeral Home of Edmond.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to the University of Central Oklahoma Tennis Program, c/o Francis Baxter, 100 N. University Drive, Edmond, OK 73013.
