A great many people wonder at the fact that the range lines and also section lines in the strip do not correspond with those in the state. The first fact to get in mind is, that the government survey in the strip is made altogether separate and independent of the survey made in Kansas. The initial point for the Kansas survey is on the line between Kansas and Nebraska, while the initial point for the Indian Territory, is at Fort Arbuckle. The line between Kansas and the Indian Territory is therefore a closing line for both surveys. There will naturally be fractional sections on the north side of this line in Kansas, and also fraction sections on the south in the Cherokee Strip. The last township in Kansas, number 35 S. is a little more than 2 ½ mills wide, while the last township in the strip, number 29, is a little less than 4 miles wide. The first tier of quarter sections next to the state line is from 12 to 25 acres less than 160 acres; the others are full according to the government. The first tier of sections next to the state line in the strip, are numbers 13, 14, 15, 16, 17 and 17 numbering from E. to W. in each township next tier from 19 to 24 etc. From Anthony (Kans.)
