While most of the people of Hennessey are already convinced that the petrified man is a manufactured article, we have some pieces of plaster of Pairs in the Clipper officer that will not fail to convince those who saw the man and who will take a look at these pieces that the "petrified" article is the work of man's hands.
Last Sunday Dave Wallace and his boys were taking their annual excursion to fish along Turkey Creek west of town. While passing along the road four or five rods west of the bridge across Turkey Creek 1 ½ miles south of town at the south side of Postmaster McShea's farm, Dave noticed a pile of sand that had been dumped in the ditch at the side of the road. Making a closer examination he found some pieces of plaster of Paris covered with dirt and continuing his search he soon found fifteen or twenty pieces each used as a mould of some kind. The pieces were of different sizes and had been broken up with an ax or a hatchet. Noticing the shape of the moulds he came to the conclusion that they had been used in making the petrified man. He offered to show the editor of the Clipper the whereabouts of the moulds Monday morning, so taking a spade along we drove out and brought in about 35 to 40 pieces including some of the material of which the man was made.<
A great many people have called to inspect them and pass their opinion on what they; had been used for, and about all came to the conclusion that they were used in making the so-called "petrified man". Pieces can be found that would fit portions of the arms, legs and side. About the best part found was evidently used in making the fingers, as two finger marks, showing nails and wrinkles of the joints are clearly seen.
Of course the finding of the moulds will not show who made the image, but they do show that it was evidently made in town or not far from here. Come in and see for yourself-no admission charged.
