Services were held Saturday, March 20 at the First Baptist Church of Washington for M. G. Taylor, 80, of Purcell. Rev. Jack Sappenfield officiated, with burial following at the Lexington Cemetery under the direction of Yoakum-Damet Funeral Home.
Mr. Taylor died March 17.
He was born June 28, 1918, in the Fairview Community to Matthew Taylor and Bertha Peery Taylor. He attended school in Fairview and Purcell and graduated from Wayne High School in 1937.
Mr. Taylor continued his education at Draughon College, then spent 23 months in New Guinea, serving in the 41st Special Construction Battallion (SEABEES).
He married his childhood sweetheart on February 1, 1941 in Purcell. Together they opened Taylor Paint & Body and lived 58 years in the community.
Mr. Taylor was a member of the First Baptist Church of Washington, Masonic Lodge AF & AM in Washington for 51 years, Eastern Star, the McClain County Economic Development Commission, the Board of Directors of McClain County Farm Bureau, and American Legion. He was also a Past Director of the OEC board, Director of the Rural Water District # 7; and was treasurer of the Hallandia Veterans of American.
Preceding him in death were his parents, M G Sr. and Bertha Taylor; and sisters, Evelyn, Mettie Rae, Martha and Imogene.
Suvivors include his wife, of the home and his children and their spouses, Living Daughter and her husband, and Living Son and his wife. He also leaves three grandchildren; sisters and many nieces and nephews.
