April 3, 1890--The Territorial Topic

Monday and Tuesday Agent Bennett made the annual payment to the Delawares at Alluwee. There were about 815 persons on the pay rolls, each person receiving $24. The principal invested in United States bonds amounts to about $1,200 per head. If the Delawares succeed in getting that sum next year they will be "heeled." The payment was not so lively as formerly, it is said, because the agent "sat right down" on the dark cider and "chuck-c-luck" men. Fort gallons of cider was spilled the first day and perfect order was kept throughout the payment.
