There is currently no information to indicate how Springer township was named.
Five communities are known to have existed in the township. They are Canyon, in section 7, Gatewood or Hilltop in section 20, Green Oaks in section 22, Napoleon is section 31, and Woodcrest in section 22.
With the number of communities found in the township, there are no recorded post offices.
The Red Plains Experiment Station, operated by Soil Conservation Service of the United States Department of Agriculture once operated the land in the northwest part of section 3 and the northeast part of section 4.
A part of the old Oklahoma Railroad Company Interurban line from Oklahoma City to Guthrie is found in the northwest part of the township. The line was in operation from 1916 to 1931.
There is only one known cemetery in the township, that being the Oak Ridge-Cutler in the northeast part of section 12. The closest cemetery is the Pleasant Hill, located just south of the township line from the southeast corner of section 32 in Oklahoma County.
