While there is no evidence to support it, Springvale Township was probably named after the community of Springvale that once existed in section 29. Springvale also had the distinction of being the first post office to open in the area, operating from February 21, 1890 to April 30, 1903, when the mail was transferred to Evansville.

Other communities which were present in the township were Beulah in section 9, a post office from October 5, 1892 to October 14, 1895 when the mail was transferred to Tohee. Doddsworth and Endfield were both located in section 21, and both were post offices. The Doddsworth post office was in operation from June 23, 1892 to October 31, 1896 when the mail was moved to Meridian. Endfield operated from June 22 1892 to August 15, 1906 when the mail was moved to Guthrie. Evansville was located in section 11, and operated as a post office from May 24, 1894 thru July 21, 1897 when it closed and the mail was moved to Meridian. Tohee, originally called Jackson, in section 34 operated as a post office from November 13, 1890 to January 31, 1906 when the mail moved to Meridian. Springdale was a community located in the northeast corner of section 20.

Four cemeteries are known in Springvale Township. They are the Alear (also called Ayler and Leer) located in the southeast corner of section 5; the Evansville (also called Bobby Ford) located in the southwest corner of section 13; the Tohee Cemetery; the Robinson AME located in the northeast corner of section 18
