There is no information available at this time which gives light to how Woodland Township was named, that we are aware of.
The community of Lima, (section 14), is no longer in existence. It was a post office from March 3, 1892 to July 15, 1901.
The Abell, (east side of section 13), community was born in 1947 when members of the North Riverside, Mount Olive, Four B and Tellaro school districts came together to keep a rural school in the area. The Mt. Olive and Four B School buildings were moved to a 2 acre plot donated by Mr. & Mrs. Romaine Abell, and the school remained in operation until 1968.

Aside from the Crescent Cemetery, the only other known cemetery in Woodland Township is the Dodd or Old Dodd. No record is available on this cemetery, and it was long believed that all burials had been moved to other cemeteries. This is supported by Max Warren, Warren Monument Company, who personally conducted several of the exhumations. His information is that bodies were moved to Mt. Hope-Dunkard and Summit View. A current survey of the area, however shows some 12-15 sandstone markers still in place, along with the stone of James & Nancy Ashmon.
The Ashmon stone has since been moved to the Cashion Cemetery by descendants of the family.
Information from Delores Williams indicates that she had family moved from the Dodd Cemetery to the Lawrie Cemetery.
