Grab a cup of tea or coffee, sit down and share with the rest of the world 
some of those recipes from your family that have traveled down through the years.


Old Fashioned Cornbread
(this is not a sweet cornbread)
1 c. yellow cornmeal 
1 c. buttermilk 
1 egg 
1 Tbs. oil 
1/2 tsp. salt 
1/2 tsp. baking soda 
Wipe an iron skillet with oil.  Blend all ingredients together.  In the center of the skillet pour 1 Tbs. oil.  Pour mixture into the oil and bake in a 350 F oven for 25 minutes. 
(We always doubled this recipe.)

You can add other ingredients such as a can of corn, chopped green chilies, chopped onions, or anything that might strike your fancy.

My Grandmother served this cornbread with a pot of pinto beans and a ham hock that simmered on the stove for about 6 hours. 

My mother served her cornbread and beans with slawed cabbage using only oil, vinegar, salt and pepper.

Throw in a couple of wieners and you have a great meal.
