Robert Earl "Toby" Alley, 77 year old current Woodward resident and former Laverne area rancher died Wednesday, March 28, 2007 in the Crystal Wood Village Care Center in Woodward. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday March 30, 2007 in the First United Methodist Church of Woodward with the Billings Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Toby Alley was born on March 9, 1930 on the family farm North of May to Earl and Dolly (Wood) Alley. When Toby was five the family moved to a ranch south of Laverne. He rode his little pony Billy Sunday to help drive the cattle to their new home sixteen miles away. Toby attended the Luther Hill grade school before graduating from Laverne High School with the class of 1948. He attended Northwestern State College where he lettered in football and basketball. He also participated in rodeos winning trophy saddles and several belt buckles in bulldogging. On January 29, 1951 he was united in marriage to Earlene Bland in Enid they made their home on a ranch south of Laverne for the next 52 years. Toby and Earlene were blessed with three children Stephen Link, Julie Marie and Ramona Earlene. Toby was proud of his family and was active in his children's activities. Due to his failing health Toby and Earlene moved to Woodward in July 2003. In January of 2005 Toby entered the Crystal Wood Village Care Center where he was pampered and cared for. Toby was happy there, rolling down the halls singing to his nurses and harassing the office help.

At a young age Toby confessed his faith and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Woodward.

Toby was a cowboy a heart, there was nothing he liked better than checking cattle early in the morning horse back. His friends and family will miss his antics, but the memory of him will remain strong in all their hearts.
