Norma Jean Balay, 77-year-old resident of Kingfisher, Okla. and formerly of Woodward, died Feb. 22, 2007 at the Kingfisher Regional Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2007 at the Zwanziger Funeral Home Chapel with Gordon Lawson officiating. Burial will follow at the Elmwood Cemetery under the direction of the Zwanziger Funeral Home.

Norma Jean (Shepherd) Balay was born Aug. 4, 1929 at Woodward, Okla. to Louis and Lora (McDaniel) Shepherd. She attended Woodward High School. She was married to Lowell Zirger and later she married Fred Balay. Norma worked at the Polly Anna Cafe for several years before moving to Kingfisher. She enjoyed being with her family and friends.

She is survived by two sons, William N. Zirger and wife Dottie, Saucer, Miss., Michael E. Zirger, Plains, Kan., four daughters, Darla (Zirger) Tolliver, Plains, Kan., Junie M. Fleschman, Dover, Okla., Mellody Morton and husband Roger, Plains, Kan., and Judith Nelson and husband Raymond, Three Rivers, Mich., a brother Melvin Shepherd, Freedom, Okla., 18 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren and a host of other family and friends.

Norma was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lowell Zirger and husband Fred Balay, a daughter Philis R. Zirger, a brother and two sisters.
