Billie Belew, 61-year-old Woodward resident died Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2006 in the Vici Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 23, 2006 in the First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Richard McFarlin officiating. Burial will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery with the Billings Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Billie Marlene Belew was born April 20, 1945 in Freedom, Okla. She grew up on the ranch with her parents, Cecil and Allene (Blevins) Nixon and sisters, Carole, MaeBeth and brother, Marvin. Billie attended elementary and high school in Freedom, graduating in 1963. While in high school she worked during the summers as a guide at the Alabaster Caverns State Park and at the Freedom State Bank. Billie was crowned Miss Freedom her senior year and participated in the Cinderella Pageant at Northwestern State College. She attended Northwestern State College during which time she married and moved to Houston, TX. While living in Houston, she and her husband had one daughter, Stephanie Davis. The family moved to Alva where Billie worked as an optician in her husband's optometry office. Billie then worked at a bank and at the Woods County Assessor's office. Billie and Stephanie moved to Woodward in 1978 where Billie worked for a legal office, an oilfield company, and the Woodward Public School Superintendent's office. Billie married Paul Belew in 1980 and they made their home south of Woodward. During this time Billie spent her time enjoying her hobbies such as crafts, painting, gardening and entertaining her nieces and nephews. She later worked at Mid First Bank and the Woodward Court Clerk's office. In 1995, Billie and Paul moved to Woodland Park, Co. Billie retired from working and they enjoyed traveling through Colorado and visiting their children. Due to declining health, Billie and Paul moved back to Woodward in February of 2002. Billie's last years were spent at the Fairview Fellowship Home in Fairview and the Vici Nursing Home in Vici. She made and met many new friends in both places. Billie attended the First United Methodist Church in Freedom where she served many years as pianist. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Woodward. She is survived by her husband, Paul Belew of the home; a daughter, Stephanie Moss and husband David, grandchildren, MaKayla and Caleb of Newark, Mo.; stepdaughter, Tammy Sillstrop and husband Lou of Denver, Colo.; step grandsons, Josh Clare and wife Pam of Bann, Germany, and Ty Clare and wife Christina of Moore; stepson, Tony Belew and wife Linda, of Las Vegas, Nev.; and Terry Belew of Woodward; step grandchildren Haley and Jordan Belew of Edmond; Casey and Coby of Las Vegas, Nev.; and step great granddaughter, Jackie Lea of Bann, Germany; her sisters, Carole Beckett and husband Gordon, MaeBeth Bird and husband Jim all of Woodward; brother Marvin Nixon of Freedom and her nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Cecil and Allene Nixon. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, Alzheimer's Division with the funeral home as custodian.
