Cal Ray Blasdel was born on the family farm west of Selman, Okla., on March 26, 1927 to Bert and Mamie (Patten) Blasdel. He died Friday, July 21, 2006 at his home on the family's Bar V Ranch east of Buffalo. He lived at the present location since 1930.
Cal was a member of the First Christian Church of Buffalo. He was baptized June 1, 1958. He attended the New Hope school and graduated from Selman High School in 1945. He entered the U. S. Army after high school, served in Germany, achieved the rank of corporal and received an honorable discharge Feb. 21, 1947.
Cal was a member of the Masonic Lodge and a 32nd degree Mason.
On May 18, 1947, Cal was united in marriage to Ruth Arlene Appleton. They attended Oklahoma A&M College in Stillwater and then returned to the family ranch. They raised a daughter and two sons as they developed the ranch to its present state. The Angus cattle on the ranch today are a result of his love of the land and of the cows themselves. His favorite joys were caring for the cows, watching the calves grow, working side by side with his sons, seeing his grandchildren grow up and having his dogs with him as constant companions.
He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother, an infant son Bart and his brother-in-law Paul Blair.
Cal is survived by his loving wife Ruth of the home, daughter Gayla and her husband Laurence, son Bryce, and son Brad and his wife Kandi. He leaves behind his grandchildren Calvin Lee Jordan, Carson Ray Jordan, Brandi Kay Blasdel, Bert J. Blasdel and Anna Mae Blasdel and a sister, Helen Bair. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
Funeral services for Cal will be held Wednesday, July 26, 2006 at 10 a.m. at the First Christian Church in Buffalo, Okla., with minister Mike Barnett officiating.
Memorials can be made to the First Christian Church, Buffalo EMS or to the Buffalo or Selman fire departments in care of the funeral home, Box 749, Buffalo, OK 73834.
