Helen Bleckley, 79-year-old resident of Woodward, died Aug. 24, 2006 from a car accident 28 miles east of Woodward.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 1, 2006 at St. Peter Catholic Church with Rev. Scott Boeckman and Rev. James Knight presiding. There will be a Vigil held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 31, 2006 at St. Peter Catholic Church for family and friends. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery. Services are under the direction of the Zwanziger Funeral Home.

Helen O'Neill was born April 8, 1927 in Enid, Okla., to Felix and Helen (Enright) O'Neill. Helen graduated from St. Joseph's Catholic High School in Enid, Okla., attended Phillips University in Enid and graduated from the University of Oklahoma, Norman, Okla. She later received her teaching certificate from Northwestern Oklahoma State University at Alva. On Aug. 24, 1948, Helen married Harris C. Bleckley in Enid. To this union three sons and five daughters were born.

Helen was active in Boy Scouts as both Cub Scout Den Mother and in Pack; she was also a Girl Scout Leader for many years. Helen was active in St. Peter Catholic Church and served as president of the Altar Society, Director of Religious Education, Eucharistic Minister, Salt and Light Ministry, Sacristan and various committees and boards. Helen was a former mathematics teacher at Woodward Junior High School from August of 1976 to May of 1982. She tutored junior high students in English as a second language and taught ESL and citizenship classes at Catholic Social Services for the Immigration Amnesty. Helen was an associate sister of St. Joseph Catholic Church of Wichita, Kan. She was a Volunteer Income Tax Assistant (VITA) for many years. Helen was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, St. Peter Altar Society, Oklahoma Teachers Association and active in Kappa Kappa Iota Sorority.

Helen is survived by three sons, Clay Bleckley, New York City, N. Y., David Bleckley, Oklahoma City and Nick Bleckley and wife Shelly and their sons Ben and Sam, Denver, Colo.; five daughters, Beth Coly and husband Georges, New York City; Jane Paxton and her son Chris, Oklahoma City; Kate Bleckley and husband Frank Durso and her son Pat, Lubbock, Texas; Paula Bleckley, Woodward and Ruth Pinchot and husband John and their sons Clayton and Weston, The Colony, Texas; four brothers, John O'Neill, New York; Phillip O'Neill, Metarie, La.; Frank O'Neill, Lompoc, Calif. and Don O'Neill, New Orleans, La.; two sisters, Margaret Paulissen, Austin, Texas and Stephanie Allen, Phoenix, Ariz.; six grandsons and a host of family and friends.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, husband Harris Bleckley on Sept. 4, 1984 and a sister Tracy.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Peter Altar Society, 2020 Oklahoma Ave., Woodward, OK 73801, or the Catholic Charities.
