Funeral services for Dede Bond were 11:00 A.M., Saturday, April 26,2008 at the Christian Church in Canton. Burial followed in the Canton Cemetery under the direction of Haigler-Pierce Funeral Home, Canton, OK.
Dede was born on January 25, 1942 at the homeplace in Canton, OK to Eugene Victor Smith and Katherine Heloise (Donovan) Smith. She passed from this life at her home near Oakwood on Wednesday, April 23, 2008.
She was the fourth child of six children. She was raised in the Canton community and graduated from Canton High School with the class of 1959. While attending school she was a member of Canton Assembly #145 Rainbow for girls. She also attended the Canton Methodist Church. On September 14, 1959 she was married to Calvin Freeman. To this union two sons were born, Gerald Eugene and Gaylon Francis. In 1970 she united in marriage to Lonnie Roberts and had one son, Owen Roberts. In 1982 she met and later married Dick Bond, and to this union she gained two stepchildren, Dee and Margie Bond.
In 1983 Dick and Dede bought the Hilltop Tavern in Oakwood, and 4mmonths later they purchased the Country Inn in Canton, which they operated until the time of Dick‚s death in January 2005. Dede was operating them at the time of her death.
Dede enjoyed spending time doing yard work, remodeling her home, collecting frogs and spending time with her friends and family.
Dede was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Dick Bond; two brothers, Pete and George Smith.
She is survived by her three sons, Owen Roberts of Canton, Gerald Freeman of Oakwood and Gaylon Freeman and wife Krista of Woodward; one step-son, Dee Bond of Angelfire, NM and one step-daughter, Margie Bond of Monmouth, IL; three granddaughters, Makayla Roberts of Oakwood,Kasey and Dennis Bates, and Kortney and Shahn Norman all of Woodward; two great-grandchildren, Braxton Styles and Neely Norman of Woodward; three sisters, Eugeina Murry and husband Calvin of Amarillo, TX, Rebecca Throgmorton and husband Wayne of Panhandle, TX, and Jacquelyn Ingram of Wichita, KS; one sister-in-law, Betty Colvard of Oakwood; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association through the funeral home.
