Gene Eldon Brittain, 74, passed away on Dec. 25, 2006 in Temple, Texas. He was born on July 26, 1932 in Mutual, Oklahoma. Mr. Brittain obtained his BA at South West Texas College. He lived in the Copperas Cove community since 1965 and then Gatesville for 15 years. Mr. Brittain was a Copperas Cove High School teacher and Independent Remodeling Contractor after his retirement from twenty years of service in the Army. His military awards include: Vietnam Service Medal with 4 Bronze Service Stars: Bronze Star Medal; First Oak Leaf Cluster to National Defense Service Medal; Good Conduct medal; Clasp, Silver, 1 Loop; Army Commendation Medal: and Sharpshooter (Rifle).

He is preceded in death by his parents, Clint and Blanche Brittain, and one grandchild, Casey Clenn Woten, his brothers Dale, Neil, Lyle, Kail Brittain and his sister Nina Gillham, three nephews Mike Clem, Monty Clem and Sam Britton.

Mr. Brittain is survived by his wife, Caroldene Brittain; son Brett G. Brittain; daughters Jo B. Woten and husband Chawn W.; sisters Eula Phillips, Avis Duncan, Irma Woods, and Ruth Clem; grandchildren Gene, Mathew, Victoria, Eldon, and Timothy; great-grandchildren Zachary, Holly, and Brian.

Graveside services with full military honors were held at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery on Saturday, December 30th at 9:00 a.m. Those wanting to honor his memory are asked to please make a donation to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Foundation of your choice.
