Sam J. Brittain, 52-year-old Mooreland resident, died Sunday, Jan. 1, 2006 at his home following a lengthy illness. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 5, 2006 in the St. Peters Catholic Church with the Rev. James Knight as Celebrant. A Prayer Vigil will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the St. Peters Catholic Church. Burial will follow in the Moscow Flats Cemetery with the Billings Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Sammy Jay Brittain was born on April 23, 1953 in Woodward, Okla. to Lyle G. Brittian and Kathryn E. (Pat) (Dotson) Brittain. Sam attended public schools in Enid, Woodward, Tulsa, Jacksonville, Florida, and Omaha, Neb. and graduated from High School at Sharon-Mutual in 1971. He attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford and received his commercial arts degree in 1975. On Aug. 26, 1983 Sam was united in marriage to Margaret Ann Fussell. Their three children are Timothy O'Brian Brittain, Lyle Jay Brittain and DeLanda Ann Brittain. Sam lived and worked his entire adult life in Woodward County. After graduation from college, he continued working for Ideal Foods until going to work for S&H Green Stamps as a regional sales manager. During his tenure with S&H , he received countless awards including "Top Sales Manager of the Year" in the nation. Sam later started a career in radio advertising and was advertising sales manager for three different radio stations: KSIW, 93 Fox, and later Z92. In 1998 he went to work for Vernon Merriman as a store manager, where he worked until his health forced him to retire in 2002. Sam was a member of the original Crystal Christmas Board and was instrumental in setting up "Family Night" as a part of the month-long celebration. He was a former member of the Library Board, AMBUCS, and Kiwanis. Sam was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Mooreland, Okla. Sam is survived by his wife, Margaret of the home; two sons, Timothy O‚Brian Brittain of Nuremberg, Germany; Lyle Jay Brittain of Mooreland; one daughter, DeLanda Ann Brittain of the home; mother, Kathryn E. Dotson Brittain Salisbury of Woodward; two brothers, Ronald G. Brittain and wife Janet of Woodward; William Lyle (Bill) Brittain and wife Michelle of Ft. Scott, Kan.; father-in-law Thurman Fussell of Mooreland; mother-in-law Judith Henthorn and husband Jerry of Mooreland; sister-in-law Sally Miller and husband Darrell of Mooreland; brother-in-law Troy Fussell and wife Hyonhui (Honey) of Knoxville, Tenn.; sister-in-law Roxie Emunson and husband Lt. Daniel Emunson of Havelock, N. C.; special friend Vernon Merriman (Brother in Christ) and wife Darlene of Woodward; many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Lyle G. Brittain. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Brittain Children Educational Fund with the funeral home accepting the memorials.
