Woodward, Okla. Dorothy J. Burkhart, 83 year old former Woodward resident, died Friday, May 29, 2009 in Springfield, Missouri. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 2, 2009 in the Billings Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jerry Harrison officiating. Interment will be in the Elmwood Cemetery.

Dorothy Jean (Ranney) Burkhart was born on February 18, 1926 in Quincy, Illinois to Elmer and Grace (Guck) Ranney. Dorothy was reared in Quincy, Illinois and attended school in Quincy, graduating from Quincy High School. She was united in marriage to John William Burkhart on August 12, 1945 in Columbus, Kansas. John was a heavy equipment operator and his job sent the family all over the country. They moved to Woodward in January of 1974. Dorothy worked as a waitress for several years. John preceded her in death on November 4, 1990.

Dorothy enjoyed dancing, playing cards with friends, gardening and being with her family.

She is survived by one son, Joseph Burkhart and wife Toni of Woodward; three daughters, Linda Mahoney and husband Clarence of Enid, Nancy McIlvain and husband Darrell of Springfield, Missouri, Teresa Harris and husband Rusty of Woodward; one sister, June Johnson of Quincy, Illinois; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, brother and her husband.
