Ralph L. Caldwell, 90-year-old Woodward resident, died Thursday, Sept. 21, 2006 in the Grace Living Center in Woodward. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, Sept. 25, 2006 in the Billings Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Brinkman and Dr. Kipp Wolfe officiating. Burial will be in the Moscow Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Billings Funeral Home Woodward on Sunday, Sept. 24, 2006 from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m..

Ralph Lowell Caldwell was born Aug. 16, 1916 south of Mooreland; he was the son of Tom and Freda (Tingler) Caldwell. In the fall of 1916, the family moved to Colorado, living there for three years before moving back to Mooreland. In February of 1921 they moved to Moscow Flats where Ralph attended school, then attended one year at Mutual. He worked at odd jobs. In September of 1938, Ralph was married to Betty Lee Cross. One daughter, Betty Sue was born in October of 1939. He bought and sold livestock before going to work for the W.P.A. In 1942, Ralph began working for the Santa Fe Railroad. They moved to Cedardale and raised livestock. In the spring of 1944, the family moved to Gunnison, Colo. where Ralph worked on a sheep ranch and in the coal mines. They then moved to Perryton where he worked on a ranch. Ralph moved to northwest Oklahoma where he worked for several oil companies until 1949. He worked for the Army Corps of Engineers for a short time and did several construction jobs building houses. Ralph went back to Perryton and worked for the Soil Conservation district for 10 years. In 1949, he was married to Bernadine Williams. In 1960, Ralph opened an upholstery shop in Perryton Texas and Woodward and also worked at Western State Hospital and the City of Woodward. In 1964, he was married to Martha Flock.

Survivors include one daughter, Betty Sue Rost of Madera, California; five step-children, Mickie Parks and husband Shane of Woodward; Cindy Pinkley of Las Vegas, Nev.; Julie Lillard of Oklahoma City; Mark Flock and wife Criss of Lubbock, Texas; Bill Caldwell and wife Debbie of Louisiana; one sister Lena Gantz of Mooreland; special friend Kenny Vassar of Woodward; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two infant daughters; an infant brother Tom and brother Willard; two sisters, Edna Mae and Fern.
