Jerry A. Castor, 46, the retired Woodward fire chief, died Tuesday, June 27, in the Woodward Hospital and Health Center. Funeral arrangements are pending with Billings Funeral Home.

Jerry A. Castor, 46 year old retired Woodward Fire Chief, went to be with his Lord Tuesday, June 27, 2000 in the Woodward Hospital and Health Center. A celebration of his life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday in the First Baptist Church with the Reverend Bill Tindell officiating. Burial will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Billings Funeral Home.

Jerry Allen Castor was born on July 3, 1953 in Woodward, Oklahoma. He was reared in Woodward and graduated from Woodward High School in 1971. Jerry went to work for Combs equipment in 1970 as a John Deere mechanic. He attended Oklahoma State University for Fire Service Training. On July 23, 1973 he became a fire fighter for the Woodward Fire Department. Jerry became assistant Fire Chief in 1978 and earned rank of Captain on July 1, 1980. He was married to Linda Pingry on September 17, 1987 in Canadian, Texas, they made their home in Woodward.

During his tenure as Captain, Jerry served as acting Fire Chief several times until he made fire Chief on November 2, 1995. Jerry retired as Fire Chief on July 3, 1998.

Jerry was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Professional Fire Fighters of Oklahoma, serving as the 6th District Vice-President from 1980-1992, Executive Vice-President in 1992 and was made Vice-President Emeritus in 1992. He was on the Board of Trustees for the Professional Fire Fighters of Oklahoma from 1994-1996. He was also a member of the Oklahoma State Firefighters Association, the Oklahoma International Association of Firefighters, had served on the Advisory Counsel of the State Fire Marshall's Office from 1995 until 1998, was an honorary Deputy of the Woodward Sheriff's Department, was a member of Woodward Masonic Lodge #189, York Rite of St. Aumer Commandery #29 of Woodward, was a seventeen year member of the Woodward Elks Lodge #1355. Jerry received the Oklahoma State Firefighters Association Heroism award on November 11, 1982.

Survivors include his wife, Linda of the home; his children, Justin, Phillip, Lindsey, and Alysha; his parents Letha Glaze and husband Dale, Mooreland; brothers, Roger Glaze, Houston, Texas; Tony Glaze and wife Debbie, Dodge City, Kansas; Donald Clements and wife Connie, Elk City; Nathan Clements and wife July, Hastings, Nebraska; Michael Clements, Woodward; sisters, Jean Smith and husband Clyde, Woodward; Dalene Dauphin and husband Dale, Freedom; aunt and uncles, Melvin Gaston and wife Donna Woodward; Muriel Cooley, Buffalo; Bonnie Hill, Kent, Washington; nephew and nieces; great nephew and great nieces; his in-laws, Bill and Yvonne Tindell; Leon and Carolyn Pingry; brothers-in-law, Larry and Angie Pingry, Toby and Chris Tindell; Allen and Judy Tindell; Darren and Leah Tindell; Tony and Sue Alexander; grandparents Rosetta Alexander, Leo and Lucille Pingry; cousins, Pete Wood and Idabeth Fyffe; and his best friend, Jerry Pinkley and wife Paula.

Memorial may be made to the Children's Eduction Fund with the Billings Funeral Home acting as custodian.
