Dean Cavett, 66-year-old Woodward resident, died Wednesday, May 9, 2007 at his home in Woodward. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 12, 2007 in the Faith United Methodist Church with the Rev. John Curtis officiating. Interment will be in the Elmwood Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home.

Donald Dean Cavett was born on Dec. 23, 1940 in Freedom, Okla. to Donald Rufus and Margaret Iva (Janssen) Cavett. He was the first baby born in the Freedom Hospital. Dean was reared in Freedom and graduated from Freedom High School. He attended Electronics School at the vo-tech in Oklahoma City and then went to work for Vance Air Force Base. Dean returned to the Woodward area and went to work for Western Farmers Coop as a Certified Boiler Welder. Later Dean went to work for the City of Woodward where he held several titles. Dean was united in marriage to Connie (Augustine) Shirk on May 25, 1991 in Woodward, Okla. They made their home in Woodward. Dean retired from the City of Woodward in 2003. After his retirement he worked part-time for Meyers Electric until his health forced him into retirement.

Dean was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church. He loved hunting, fishing and spending time outdoors.

He is survived by his wife Connie Cavett of the home; his mother Margaret Cavett of Woodward; three daughters Alisha Wright and husband Jimmy of Oak Grove, La.; Brook Yarbrough and husband Paul of Huntington, Texas; Nikki Cruz of Tempe, Ariz.; his step-children Henry Shirk of Hays, Kan.; Bob Shirk and wife Misty of Springfield, Mo.; Brenda McCray of Oklahoma City; Doug Shirk and John Shirk both of Woodward; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Faith United Methodist Church with the funeral home accepting the contributions.
