Jack R. Craig, 78 year old resident of Leedy, died at the Leedy Nursing Center, Leedy, OK on October 17, 2000.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October21, 2000 at the Leedy First Baptist Church. Burial will beat the Trail Cemetery under the direction of Shaw Funeral Home, of Leedy.
Jack Ruben Craig was born February 15, 1922 on the farm near Trail, Oklahoma, to L. C. and Pearl Craig. He passed from this life on October 17, 2000, at the age of 78 years.
Jack attended grade school at Trail and high school at Leedy, Oklahoma. He enjoyed the time he spent working on the family farm with his parents and brothers and sisters.
Jack married Phyllis Coleman on April 21, 1941 in Taloga, Oklahoma.They farmed and ranched on the Trail flats until 1961 when they moved to Leedy, Oklahoma. In 1965, they moved to Woodward, Oklahoma where they opened and ran a restaurant for 26 years. Then moved to Hinton, Oklahoma, and managed a convenience store. In July 1991 they returned to their home in Leedy, where they enjoyed renewing old friendships.
Jack enjoyed his family and working in the yard. He had a special hobby of playing the harmonica.
Jack served in the Army from January of 1945 until June of 1946 and held the rank of Sergeant at the time of his honorable discharge. While serving he was honored with a Good Conduct Medal, a Victory Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon, APT Ribbon, and a Philippians Liberation Ribbon with one star.
Jack was baptized May 8, 1949 and became a member of the First Baptist Chruch.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis Craig; his parents, L. C. and Pearl Craig; and adult sister, Ada Sue Skelton; and infant sister, Helen Jewel; and by 5 brothers - Orville, Carl, Charlie, Lee, and John Craig.
Jack is survived by his daughter, Jacqueline Welty, and her husband Rex, of Leedy; one son Ron Craig and his wife Barbara, of Yukon, Oklahoma; 2 sisters, Billie Ruth Jones and her husband, Louis, of Leedy; Alyce Baker and her husband Andy of Hemet, California; two brothers - James Craig and wife Leojeanne, of Leedy, and Dave Craig and wife Frances, of Clifton, Colorado; one brother-in-law, Gene Coleman and his wife Oneta, of Clinton, Oklahoma; 6 grandchildren - Kim Miller, Dusty Welty, Becky Dugger, Monty Welty, Regina Brunker, and Kristy Martin; 5 great-grandchildren - Megan Meller, Jason Welty, Dillon Dugger, Kyndal Dugger, and Kaylee Brunker; also by many loved ones and friends.
