John C. Crotts, 73-year-old Woodward resident, died Friday, Oct. 20, 2006 in the Oklahoma Heart Hospital in Oklahoma City. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2006 in the Crown Heights Baptist Church with the Rev. Randy Wisniewsky officiating. Interment will be held at 4 p.m. in the Marlow Cemetery, with the U.S. Marine Corps providing the military rites and the Rev. Joe Ligon officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home, Woodward.

John Chester Crotts was born on June 9, 1933 in Marlow, Okla. to Chester Floyd Lee and Gladys Joy (Acord) Crotts. John was reared in Marlow and graduated from Marlow High School in 1951. He attended college at Central State University in Edmond before being inducted into the United States Marine Corps in 1953. He served in the Korean War as a Sergeant Tank Commander. He was honorably discharged on March 12, 1956. After his discharge he went to work for Halliburton in Farmington, N. M. He was united in marriage to Monarae Metcalf on Oct. 18, 1957 in Farmington, N. M. To this union three children were born, Julie, John, and Robyn. In December of 1965 they moved to Woodward where John continued in the oil and gas industry. John was a pioneer of the oil and gas industry, working more than 50 years in that field, retiring in 2006 from VESCO at the age of 72.

John was a member of the Crown Heights Baptist Church. He loved his family, yard work, football and baseball. He loved the Woodward Travelers and had followed them most of his life.

He is survived by his father, Chester Floyd Lee Crotts of Marlow; one son John S. Crotts and wife Tamara of Woodward; two daughters, Julie Simons and husband Tom of Brunswick, Ohio; Robyn Cather and husband Donnie of Mutual; one sister Patsy Joy Dixon of Marlow; six grandchildren, Jason Crotts and wife Wendy; Jeremy Crotts and wife Deann; Justin Crotts and wife Jenny; Shenna Sandoval; Garrett Cather and Hailey Cather; seven great-grandchildren, Harlee Rae, Jasmine, Justin, Asha, Jayden, Hunter, and Justyn Briley; his former wife Monarae Sumner of Woodward; other relatives and many good friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother "Mammy" Eutha Crotts, his mother, Gladys Crotts and his sister Bobby Drew McIntyre.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Crown Heights Baptist Church with the funeral home accepting the contributions.
