Ada Curtis was born Oct. 1, 1930 in Jester, Oklahoma and went to be with her Lord and loved ones on Dec. 12, 2006. Ada was one of 11 children born to Dallas Hardin and Myrtle Lee Othel (Reed) Woody. She has one remaining sibling, Polly Webb and husband Guy of Dallas, Texas. She married Bill Herber, July 16, 1949 and they were blessed with four daughters, they resided in Follett, Texas and Shattuck. Ada married Milford Ardell Curtis in 1960 and resided in Fort Supply and Laverne. Ada is survived by her children Rita Salmon, Billie White and husband Tony, Sandy Carpenter and husband Gary, Patsy Hubbard, Lloyd Hubbard, Van Curtis and wife Kathy and, Jovetta Curtis. Her grand-angels Teresa and Tim Goff, Bobbi Jo and John Moore, Wendy and Dustin Davis, Ty and Selin White, Jody and Eric Millison, Jeff Hubbard, Carmen White, Carrie White, Cristy White, Torrey White, Scott Hardison, Steven and Carrie Hardison, Brandon Curtis,and six great grand-angels. And of course, her many, many friends.
Ada's accomplishments included being a high school basketball star, managing the Longhorn Bar in Shattuck, managing the bowling alley café in Laverne, working at the Laverne Hospital, becoming the first woman hired to work in pipeline with Michigan-Wisconsin, retiring from ANR Pipeline Company in 1994, and serving on the Laverne City Council. Ada has lived in Woodward since 1998.
Known to be stubborn and independent, she touched many lives and will be missed.
The family invites everyone to share in the celebration of the life of Ada Curtis on Monday, Dec. 18, 2006 at 2–4 p.m. at the Assembly of God Fellowship Hall at 306 S Oklahoma in Laverne with Rev. Wes Peterman.
Interment will be at Laverne Cemetery at a later date, as Ada donated her body to the OU Health Sciences Center.
Memories and stories are welcome at this informal celebration. We request that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Laverne Ambulance Service.
