A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Woodward for Margaret Davis on Saturday, June 6, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be at the Elmwood Cemetery in Woodward. Local arrangements are under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home.
Margaret Violet Jennings Ludden Miller Davis went to be with her Lord and Saviour on May 27, 2009 in Hanford, California. Margaret was born on January 12, 1916, in the family home near Gage, Oklahoma. She grew up near Vici, Oklahoma. Margaret married her first husband, Francis R. Ludden. Together they had three children. They lived in Woodward, Oklahoma until his death in 1944. In 1946, Margaret married Ernest Miller. They lived in Woodward until 1954 when they moved to a farm near Longdale, Oklahoma. In 1959 they moved to Weatherford, Oklahoma, and bought a boarding house for college boys. In 1968 Ernest passed away. Margaret moved back to Woodward where she met and married James Davis. They lived in Woodward until his death. Margaret then moved to Sheridan, Wyoming, to be near her youngest daughter, Bessie Brewer. Margaret lived in Wyoming until 2002, when she moved to Lemoore, California to live with her oldest daughter, Margarette Smith.vShe was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Lemoore, California; the St. Joseph League in Sheridan, Wyoming; and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary in Sheridan, Wyoming.
Margaret was preceded in death by her daughter Bessie Marie Brewer and granddaughter Candice Marie Brewer. Margaret is survived by her daughter Margarette Smith and her husband Ronald Smith of Lemoore, California; and her son Lawrence A. Ludden and his wife, Susanne Ludden, of Marlton, New Jersey; eight grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and one great, great grandchild.
Margaret, with only an 8th grade education, made sure her three children had a college education so they could support themselves in life. She attended many classes and became a life long learner. As an adult she learned to type, to swim, and she even became a nurse's aide. She worked as both a nurse's aide and a professional cook. In her spare time she loved to sew, sewing many beautiful quilts. She volunteered for many years at the VA Hospital in Sheridan, Wyoming, where she was honored with a 1,000 hours volunteer pin.
