Mary Edith Day, age 82, a Riggins homemaker, died Monday night, December 17, 1990, at Syringa General Hospital in Grangeville of a heart attack.

Known by her friends as Edith, she was born August 18, 1908 in the country near Mooreland, Oklahoma to Patrick and Gertrude (Robinson) Dillon. She attended school through the 8th grade.

She married Thomas Edward Day in Dayton, Washington on July 8, 1948. They made their home in Kennewick while Thomas worked as a millwright at Hanford. The couple moved to Riggins in 1950. Edith worked off and on at Summerville's Cafe and the Drive-Inn. She was known for her talents as a masseuse and soothed a lot of aching muscles in Riggins. She was also known for her love for cats and fed all the strays that came to her home.

Thomas died on Sept. 12, 1988.

Edith was active in the Riggins Senior Citizens.

Edith is survived by two sisters: Iva Jane Gilchrist and Bertha Louise Roper, both of Kennewick, Washington and a brother, Clyde Dillon of White Salmon, Washington.

Graveside services were held on Thursday, December 20 at the Riggins Cemetery in Riggins, Idaho. Officiating was Reverend Bill Miller of the First Christian Church of Grangeville. Memorials may be sent to the Heart Fund... Services were under the direction of Noland Funeral Home of Grangeville.
