Joe Gordon DeWald was born on Aug. 17, 1939 at Woodward, Okla. to Chester LeRoy and Ada Pearl Castor DeWald. He passed from this life on July 28, 2006 after a short battle with cancer. Joe was 66 years of age.

The family lived west of Woodward on the family farm. Joe attended grade school at the Tangier country school and high school at Woodward High graduating with the class of 1958. Joe then continued his education at Gradwall Medical Technology Institute in St. Louis, Mo., graduating in 1960. On June 25, 1957 Joe married Floretta Perrin and three girls were born to this union, Jo Retta, Cindy and Katie. They raised their girls in Carnegie, Okla. where Joe was a Medical Technologist and an X-Ray Technician at Carnegie Hospital for 17 years. Joe then owned and operated DeWald's Pest Control for several years and for three summers he did custom wheat harvesting.

In 1980, Joe returned to Woodward and on Sept. 21, 1981 he married Twila White. The couple resided in Woodward where Joe worked 19 additional years at the Western State Hospital and in July of 1989 he and Twila began DeWald Greyhound Farm. They enjoyed watching the greyhounds run at various tracks. Joe was a member of the National Greyhound Association.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Ada DeWald, by two brothers, J. E. and Chet DeWald, and by on infant nephew, Dalton DeWald. He is survived by his wife of the home, Twila DeWald; by three daughters, Jo Retta Pennington and husband Lon of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Cindy Reddick and husband Carroll of Carnegie, Okla. and Katie Delaney and husband Greg of Anadarko, Okla.; 10 grandchildren, Jacob, Logan and Jon Pennington, Carroll Ray and wife Candice, Darroll Joe and wife Blake and Robert Reddick, Michkala, Amber and Michael DeForest and Jeff Delaney; 4 great grandchildren, Jordan, Ryan and Lillie Reddick and Raegan Delaney and one great granddaughter on the way; two sisters-in-law, Elaine DeWald of Woodward and Joann DeWald of Mooreland, Okla.; many nieces and nephews; special friends, Clay and Kari Wyatt, Rudy and Araceli Terrazas and children Jennifer, Rudy, Mercedes and Twila; and a large host of other family and friends.

Funeral services were held Monday, July 31, 2006 in the First Christian Church, Vici, Okla. with interment following in the Sunnyside Cemetery. Services arranged by Shaw Funeral Home, Vici, Okla.
