Death Notice

Leroy A. Freed, 85, of Woodward, died March 20, 2005 at the Veterans Hospital in Amarillo, Texas. Military rites will be held at 2 p.m. April 1, at the graveside in Elmwood Cemetery in Woodward under the direction of Johnson's Good Samaritan Funeral Service.

Funeral services for Leroy Freed, 85 year old Woodward resident, will be Friday, April 1 at 2:00 p.m. at the graveside in the Elmwood Cemetery. in Woodward.

The Reverend Gary Holdeman will officiate.

Military rites will be provided by Vance Air Force Base.

Arrangements are by Johnson's Good Samaritan Funeral Service.

Leroy Albert Freed was born January 28, 1920 in Aline, Okla., to Claude and Delta (Livingston) Freed.

He grew up in Aline and later Ulysses, Kansas.

His family moved to Woodward where Leroy attended the Woodward College for two years.

He then completed his education at Wichita Business College and joined the U. S. Air Force in 1940 and retired as a Master Sergeant after thirty years of total service to his country.

On February 20, 1947 he was married to Charlotte Delp at Winfield, Kansas.

They maintained a home in Woodward where Charlotte taught school while Leroy served his country.

Following their retirement they enjoyed traveling, fishing and playing golf.

Charlotte died in 1991 and on September 23, 2003 Leroy was married to Glendena Weiszbrod.

They continued to make their home in Woodward.

Leroy was a member of the United Methodist Church in Woodward and also the Moose Lodge and the American Legion.

Mr. Freed died March 29 at the V. A. Hospital in Amarillo, Texas.

In addition to his first wife, Leroy was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Clarence.

He is survived by his wife Glendena, of the home; a brother, Vernon Freed of Ulysses, Kan., two nephews, Donald and Douglas Freed and special friends, Fran and Calvin Cook of Woodard.

Family requests that memorials can be made to the American Heart Association.
