Alan Weston Geismar passed away on Tuesday, April 17, 2007 in Tulsa, Okla. at the age of 90.

He was born in Woodward, Okla. on Sept. 11, 1916. Alan graduated from Oklahoma State University in 1939 with an electrical engineering degree, and married Vera Olive Lane in 1942. He served as an Aviation Ordinance Officer with the United States Navy from February, 1944 to May, 1946. From 1946 until his retirement in 1981, he worked for the Corps of Engineers in the Tulsa District. He was first assigned as an electrical engineer for the construction of Ft. Gibson Dam and Powerhouse along with associated facilities.

Alan went on to serve as the first Superintendent of the Ft. Gibson and Tenkiller hydroelectric power plants, and was later named chief of the Hydroelectric Power Branch for the Corp's Tulsa District with responsibility for all hydroelectric power plants in Oklahoma, along with parts of Texas and Kansas.

In 1977, he received the Army Meritorious Civilian Service Award in recognition of "outstanding accomplishments in the construction, operation and management of hydroelectric power plants in the district." In 1985, Alan was officially recognized as a member of the "Gallery of Distinguished Civilian Employees" in the Tulsa District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

For 22 years, Mr. Geismar served on the Board of Directors for the Bank of Woodward in Woodward, Okla. beginning in 1967. Alan and Vera were active members of Boston Avenue Methodist Church for many years in Tulsa, and he more recently was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Broken Arrow, Okla.

Alan was preceded in death in 1997 by his beloved wife, Vera. He also leaves a daughter, Linda and son-in-law Mike Burnett of New London, N.C. and a son, Bob and daughter-in-law, Rita Geismar of Bakersfield, Calif. Alan is also survived by three grandsons, Blair and wife Carly Geismar, and Neil and wife Summer Geismar who reside in the Dallas/Ft. Worth, Texas metroplex, and Alex Geismar of Austin, Texas; and three great granddaughters, Brinley, Brooke and Keaten.

Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, April 20, 2007 at Moore's Southlawn. Graveside service will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery at 51st Street and Memorial Drive in Tulsa, Okla. in the open air Mausoleum at 10 a.m. A.M. on Saturday, April 21. Family and friends will be invited to a gathering immediately following the service at the Family Center on the cemetery grounds.

Anyone wishing to honor Alan may make donations to The Parks Edge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Tulsa, the Grace Hospice of Tulsa or their favorite charity in lieu of flowers.
