Rose J. Goree, 46-year-old resident of Woodward, died Monday, April 16, 2007 at her home. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, April 20, 2007 in the Woodward First Baptist Church with the Reverend Brett Allen officiating. Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. in the Liberal Cemetery in Liberal, Kan. Arrangements are under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home.

Rose Jean (Piehler) Goree was born June 1, 1960 at the Epworth Hospital in Liberal, Kan. to Leroy Walter Peihler and Genevieve Piehler. She attended Liberal Public Schools. In 1978-1979 Rose attended Seward County Community College in the nursing program. While going to college, she worked at the Liberal Nursing Home. On July 7, 1979 she married James Thomas Goree in Liberal, Kan. To this union Destiny Dawn Goree was born on Nov. 28, 1979 and Byron Thomas Goree was born on March 2, 1982. While living in Liberal, Kan., she worked at the National Beef Packing Plant. In 1983 they moved to Fort Supply, Okla. She worked at Western State Hospital for 11 years. She also worked at the Buffalo Nursing Home in Buffalo. In November of 1986 she graduated from the High Plains VoTech Nursing Program in Woodward. In 1992 they moved to Woodward and made their home here for fifteen years. While living in Woodward, Rose worked at the Seiling Nursing Home until she became ill with cancer in November of 2004.

Her first precious grandson was given to her by her daughter Destiny and Justin Gorton on October 22, 2003 named James Jason Gorton. The second precious grandson was given to her by her son Byron and Jennifer Goree on Dec. 9, 2005 named Baylee Thomas Goree. The third precious grandchild was given to her by Destiny and Justin Gorton on December 24, 2006 named Katelynn Rose Gorton.

Rose enjoyed doing cross stitch, crocheting and puzzle books, and collecting Precious Moments figurines. The most important part was spending time with her kids and her grandchildren.

Rose and her husband James were baptized and became members of the First Baptist Church in Woodward on Oct. 8, 2006. They were very proud and talked about it to their families and friends. Several family members were there to witness this special occasion.

She is survived by her husband James Goree of the home; one daughter Destiny Gorton and husband Justin; a son Byron Goree and wife Jennifer all of Stillwater; seven sisters Vera Garrett of Buffalo, N. Y.; Virginia Coleman, Bonnie McCroskey, Darla Ashton all of Amarillo, Texas; June Pena of Las Vegas, Nevada; Jo Evans of Amarillo, Texas; Paula Lerch of Dodge City, Kan.; one brother Richard Piehler of Broken Arrow, Okla.; three grandchildren, James Jason Gorton, Baylee Thomas Goree and Katelynn Rose Gorton; three brothers, Lester Shotwell of Wichita, Kan.; Ronny Conroy of Powers, Mich.; Frank Jahnke of St. Jo, Mo., three sisters, Hazel Lunetta of Sacramento, Calif.; Royetta Holly of St. Jo, Mo.; Karen Hollembeak of Lincoln, Kan.; several nieces, nephews, many family members and friends.

Rose was preceded in death by her sister Betty Jean Piehler, her parents Leroy Walter and Genevieve Piehler and a brother Clifford Leroy Piehler; also two sisters, Dee Mayfield and Bonnie.
