Woodward, Okla. Services for Dale Helms, 66, of Canadian, Texas, will be at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, May 14, 2009 at the Church of Christ with Dr. Dean English, officiating. Burial will follow in Edith Ford Memorial Cemetery in Canadian, TX under the direction of Hughs Funeral Home of Canadian, Texas.

Mr. Helms passed away Saturday, May 9, 2009 in Amarillo, Texas.

Dale was born March 19, 1943 in Littlefield, TX to the late Mr. Herman Helms and Mrs. Shirley (Sanford) Helms. He attended schools in San Angelo, TX. He was a Veteran of the United States Air Force serving in Vietnam. He retired from the United States Air Force 3750th Air Base Group as a Technical Sergeant. He moved to Canadian, TX in 1981 from Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, TX. Dale married Sue Hardin on January 26, 1981 in Wheeler, TX. He worked in the oilfield in his early years and later worked for DCP Midstream for 25 years, where he was still an employee until his passing. He was preceded in death by one son, Kevin Craig Bodkin on February 21, 2001, one brother, Kenneth Helms and three sisters, Joyce Helms, Janice Rose Boydston and Charlotte Helms.

He is survived by his wife, Sue Helms of Canadian, TX; four sons, Michael Dale Helms and wife Tammy of Big Lake ,TX; Jason Wayne Helms and wife Sarah of San Angelo, TX; Matt Dean Helms and Cody Joe Helms and wife Heather all of Canadian, TX; two daughters, Kimberly Gayle Vasquez and husband Jesse of Denton, TX; Samantha Leigh Cummings and husband James of Mooreland, OK; one brother, Jerry Helms and wife Sharon of Royal, AR; one sister, Mary Wolf and husband Cleo of Midland, TX; 17 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, three nieces, Sarita Green of Binger, OK; Alisha Brown and JaNelle Hardin both of Higgins, TX; and one great niece, Carissa Green of Binger, OK.

The family suggests memorials to American Cancer Society, 3915 Bell St., Amarillo, TX 79109.

Viewing will be available at the First Christian Church Chapel at 402 Purcell Ave in Canadian.
