Woodward, Okla. Funeral services for Virginia Herbel, 80-year-old Woodward resident, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, 2008, at New Covenant Church in Woodward. Pastor Ed Dowty will officiate. Interment will be at Shattuck Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Billings Funeral Home. Virginia Herbel was born June 20, 1927, on the family farm south west Shattuck to Adam and Lydia (Steinle) Fritzler. She graduated from Shattuck High School in 1944 and soon after was employed by Ellis County Courthouse in Arnett. She then attended A&M (Oklahoma State University). While in college she was employed by Professor Potts and thoroughly enjoyed working with the students.

Virginia married Eugene Herbel on Dec. 23,1958, in Higgins, Texas. After living in Florida for a year, they returned to Oklahoma and have lived in the Woodward area ever since. Through the years she derived great pleasure in entertaining and cooking for people, and her loving hospitality was appreciated by many. Her greatest joy in life came from her love of Jesus Christ and following His guidance.

Mrs. Herbel died February 3rd at Woodward Regional Hospital. She was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include her husband Eugene, her daughter Vicki Hanson and husband Fred of Loveland, Colorado; a brother Raymond Fritzler and wife Ida of Shattuck; a sister Elsie Bayless and husband Glenn of Shattuck, and many other beloved family members and friends.

The family has requested memorial donations be made to New Covenant Church with the funeral home accepting the donations.
