Mary Lorene Hogg, 92 year old resident of Leedy, passed away June27, 2000 at the Leedy Nursing Center. Funeral services will be held at Methodist Church of Leedy at 2:00 p.m. July 1, 2000 under the direction of Shaw Funeral Home of Leedy.

Mary Lorene (Walton) Hogg was born September 23, 1907 to Jennie May (Billings) and Everett Lee Walton on the Walton homestead near Mooreland, Oklahoma. She passed from this life Tuesday, June 27, 2000 at the Leedy Nursing Center at the age of 92 years.

She attended Eureka grade school, graduated from Leedy High Schooland later completed her degree in teaching at Southwestern Oklahoma StateUniversity.

Lorene and Herman Hogg were married on January 16,1932 in Cheyenne, Oklahoma and lived a short time on his parents farm near the Canadian community. They then moved to their own farm southwest of Leedy in 1936, where they lived for over 55 years.

Lorene taught school for 40 years. She taught in several small grade schools in surrounding communities and later taught 6th grade in the Leedy public schools until her retirement. She loved each and every one of "her"children and was selected Dewey County and State of Oklahoma Teacher of the year in 1965.

She attended the First United Methodist Church of Leedy and was an active supporter of various church activities and spent several years as a Sunday School teacher. She was an avid gardner and spent much of her sparetime outdoors caring for her flowers.

Lorene was preceded in death by her husband Herman; her parents; one sister, Dorothy and two brothers Buell and Orval Walton and one sister-in-law, Zona Gale Walton.

She is survived by one sister-in-law, Lucille Walton of Claremore, Oklahoma. Three nieces, Evelyn Jones of Woodward, Bevelyn Rushbrook of Edmond and Lynn Clements of Claremore and one nephew Erick Walton of Oklahoma City. She is survived by a large number of great and grand niecesand nephews and a host of friends.
