Woodward, Okla. — Betty Kelting, 79 year old Mooreland resident, died Monday, March 2, 2009 in the Oklahoma Heart Hospital in Oklahoma City. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 5, 2009 in the First Baptist Church of Mooreland with the Reverend Gaylon Cox and the Reverend Darren Mann officiating. Interment will be in the Mooreland Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home of Mooreland.
Betty Ruth (Pruitt) Kelting was born December 22, 1929 on the family farm near Lone Wolf, Oklahoma to Samuel Austin and Zelia (Zills) Pruitt. She was reared on the farm and attended the Koonkazachey Country School until the eighth grade. Betty graduated from Lone Wolf High School in 1947. She was united in marriage to Raymond Edgar Kelting on March 16, 1948 in Vernon, Texas. To this union they were blessed with two children, Beverly Lorraine on February 13, 1949 and Ronnie RaLynn on April 18, 1953. They made their first home in Lone Wolf and lived in several different towns in southwest Oklahoma because of Ray's job in construction. The family moved to Anadarko in 1954 and moved to Mooreland in August of 1962. Betty has resided in Mooreland since that time. Betty worked as a Seamstress for Tregos Western Wear for a number of years. She went to work for the First Baptist Church of Mooreland as a temporary Secretary and continued working there for over 15 years.
Betty was a long time member of the First Baptist Church of Mooreland. She taught children's Sunday School and she was always working with the children. She had most recently been working with the Team Kids on Wednesday nights. Betty was a member of the Altrusa Club, Work and Play Club, and the Lets Talk About It Book Club. Visitation with her church family was always very important to her.
She is survived by her daughter, Beverly Kelting of Mooreland; two brothers, Jackie Pruitt and wife Judy of Bethany; Jimmie Pruitt and wife Joyce of Hobart; nieces, nephews and her beloved church family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ray Kelting on February 2, 1985 and her son Ronnie on January 20, 1994. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund with the funeral home accepting the contributions.
