Funeral services for Milton (Milt) McKenna, 90-year-old Fargo resident, will be Saturday, Feb. 9 at 2 p.m. at the Fargo United Methodist Church. The Rev. Aaron Martin and the Rev. John Curtis will officiate. Interment will be in the Fargo Cemetery under the direction of Johnsonís Good Samaritan Funeral Service.

Milton Edward McKenna was born Dec. 16, 1917 in Hutchinson, Kan. to Robert and Adelia (Buckbee) McKenna. He grew up north of Fargo and attended a country school. He then farmed, worked on WPA projects, helped in the building of the Fort Supply Dam and helped to build the road between Fargo and Gage with his team of horses. Milt then joined the U. S. Army serving in Africa and Italy during World War II. Following his discharge, he returned to Fargo where he first worked for various farmers and then for many years as a mechanic on drilling rigs in the oilfield. In May 1961, he was united in marriage to Mae Adams and they continued to reside in Fargo. In his later years, Milt cut firewood for a living and was well-known for his Black Diamond watermelons.

He was a member of the Fargo United Methodist Church. He loved to fish, especially for catfish and would always invite his family to join him. He enjoyed the visits by his grandsons and coffee with his buddies at the Fargo quick stop. Everyone would recognize him as he drove his red Buick and later his red Nissan. Milt always had a smile and never complained.

Mr. McKenna died Feb. 6, 2008 at the Woodward Regional Hospital.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mae; his parents; a daughter, Jean Little Charlie; three brothers and sisters; and a son-in-law Virgil Ware.

He is survived by a son, Thomas McKenna of Fargo; a step-daughter, Shirley Ware of Fort Supply; three step-sons, John Adams and his wife Shirley of Woodward, Jim Adams and wife Resa of Edmond and Robert Adams of Woodward; a son-in-law, Joe Little Charlie; a brother, Raymond McKenna of Edmond; two sisters, Leona Thomas of Gage and Ruby McKenna of Larned, Kan.; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 11 great great-grandchildren including two very special ones, Colby and Austin Evans; other relatives and very special neighbors, Loyd and Jackie Wanger.
