Laura Mae Nelson, 73 year old Woodward resident, died Sunday, May 17, 2009 at her home in Woodward. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 20, 2009 in the First Baptist Church with the Reverend Brett Allen officiating. Interment will be in the Elmwood Cemetery.

Laura Mae Randall Nelson was born August 23, 1935 in Riverview, Oklahoma to David and Luvena (Crownover) Randall. Laura Mae was reared east of Vici on the family farm. She attended Vici schools and graduated from Vici High School in 1953. Laura Mae was united in marriage to the love of her life Roy B. “Butch” Nelson Jr. on April 12, 1958 in Vici, Oklahoma. They made their first home in Woodward. The family lived at several different places because of Butch’s time in the military. They moved back to Woodward in 1960 and have resided here since that time. Laura Mae worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone for over 32 years as an Operator and also in Customer Service.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Woodward. Laura Mae was also a member of the Telephone Pioneers. She enjoyed tea parties, the Red Hats Classy Lassies, giving roses to dear friends and neighbors and bowling. Her son, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and the rest of her family and friends gave her the most enjoyment in her life.

Laura Mae prepared great memory books to share her memories with her family and wrote of memories of her parents, including dates, names, and special moments. These books will be cherished by her family.

She is survived by her husband, Butch Nelson of the home; one son, Randy B. Nelson and wife Alisa of Woodward; six grandchildren, Adam Nelson and wife Misti of Woodward, Brandi Elwood and husband Derek of Edmond, Caleb Nelson and wife Daesha of Woodward, Staci Nelson of Edmond, David Nelson and Daniel Nelson both of Woodward; five great-grandchildren, Emily, Rowdy, Bailey, Elijah and Darwin; one brother, Floyd Randall of Vici; sister-in-law, Winnona Randall of Vici; other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, two sisters and an infant grandson.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church or the Woodward Senior Citizens Center with the funeral home accepting the contributions.
